Omeprazole (Prilosec) Suspension and Lansoprazole (Prevacid) Suspension – In infants the sphincter muscle that prevents the contents of the stomach from coming back into the esophagus is not fully developed. Many infants suffer from reflux . This is normal and infants will outgrow it. However, in some cases the reflux can be severe and lead to poor weight gain, trouble with feeding, and an inflamed esophagus. The child’s pediatrician may decide to prescribe a proton pump inhibitor that is traditionally more potent and effective then Ranitidine (Zantac) or Famotidine (Pepcid). We can compound Lansoprazole (Prevacid) or Omeprazole (Prilosec) in a palatable suspension.
Lidocaine/hydrocortisone – We can compound ointments or suppositories containing lidocaine and hydrocortisone that will relieve the pain and decrease the swelling and inflammation associated with hemorrhoids.
Some blood pressure medications specifically diltiazem and nifedipine when used topically to the rectum will promote healing and decrease pain of anal fissures. They do this by increasing blood flow and decreasing the tone of the anal sphincter. We are able to combine either one with lidocaine for extra pain relief.
